App froze twice after masking

Anonym 10 år siden opdateret af Meld Support Team 10 år siden 5
I was unable to continue editing after masking as the app froze and I had to shut it down and reopen it. It happened on two successive tries. I made sure no other apps were open hogging resources. I gave it one more try but didn't mask the entire area I wanted as masking is VERY cumbersome in Meld -- would love to see magic wand, radial and linear gradient masking tools as well as undo -- and the third try with only minor masking worked fine.

Hi there... we are so sorry that this has happened whilst doing your masking. We have not seen this problem before and would like to solve it as soon as possible.

Can you please tell us the following:

1.) DEVICE MAKE & MODEL:
What exact device are you working on?

2.) OS VERSION:
What software version is your device running?

3.) HOW MANY LAYERS AND MASKS?
Did you have max layers and a mask for each of those layers?

4.) WHAT WAS YOUR EXPORT SIZE?
Where you using the default or a larger export size?

5.) ANY OTHER DETAILS:
Is there anything else you can tell us about the bug that may help?

The masking system is a unique beast that once mastered is quite powerful but we can see how it can seem quite cumbersome to use. We are looking at ways to making this better for everyone. Please let us know what kind of masking system would work best for you or has done so in the past?

Yes, features to come will be magic wand and various styles of gradient masks.

Thank you for your feedback

  1. iPad Air
  2. 7.1.2
  3. 3 layers, middle layer with large mask of subject leaving background unmasked
  4. default
  5. In order to get the masking precise, it took MANY mask/erase steps and much too long to accomplish with the current very limited masking brush. Perhaps it was the extensive and sequential mask/erase steps that overtaxed something. On my third attempt I did a very minor amount of masking as a test and the app did not freeze on that try.
There are two apps that handle masking in very different ways that I find to be very precise and VERY fast, making short work of the tedious job of masking to get me immediately back to creating:

  • Leonardo, which has the following excellent masking tools which I use often: magic wand, linear gradient mask, radial gradient mask, oval and rectangular mask, transparency and hardness sliders for masking brush, invert mask, feather mask, unlimited undo/redo, and quite a few more tools for masking that I don't use as often.
  •  PS Touch's excellent Scribble Selection Tool: simply and quickly outline your subject with that brush and the apps's algorithm automatically fills in the rest of the subject and separates it from the background.
Hi Linda, just wanted to say a big thank you for these details. We are still investigating the issue. We have also taken onboard what you have desired regarding masking. We are working towards some new features for masking that will make large area masking alot easier. These new mask features are on the roadmap post release.

Both Leonardo and PS TOuch a re full blown editing suites that Meld is not - though we appreciate their feature set and will strive to deliver tools that people want. Thanks
Thanks for the opportunity to beta test your very fine app. I'm very much looking forward to the official release of Meld; tomorrow is the day I begin to look for it in the Apple Apps store. Yay! Wishing the Meld team GREAT sucess and looking forward to watching the app evolve and conquer!
